Bio for Dr. James V. Myers, III (“Jay”)

Dr. Myers was born in Spartanburg, SC, son of James V. Myers, Jr. (of Wadesboro, NC) and Karla Smith Myers (of Kings Mountain, NC). He graduated from Dorman High School in Spartanburg and then went on to later graduate Cum Laude, from the College of Charleston. Continuing on, he attended the Medical University of South Carolina where he graduated with outstanding honors as well as taking home the prized “Award for Excellence” in Esthetic Dentistry.

Dr. Myers moved to Charlotte and practiced there for a few years, but his heart never truly left the Lowcountry and in July of 2006 his path crossed with Dr. McClary. They met and soon formed a partnership, now known as Pineland Family Dental.

Dr. Myers and his lovely wife, Mandy, currently share their home with Cooper (a spunky Jack Russell Terrier), Rocky (a former racing Greyhound), and Mr. Meepers (the tabby cat who thinks he rules the roost). The Myers’ are active members of the Summerville YMCA, Chamber of Commerce, and other various social organizations throughout our community. He and his wife are both runners who enjoy local and national competitions to benefit charities.

Most Friday afternoons you will Dr. Myers at the Pine Forest Country Club, where he greatly enjoys golf and tennis. He also enjoys his “beach-time,” is an avid traveler, and connoisseur of great food and wine.

Dr. Myers would like for his patients to know how passionate he is about dentistry. He places the highest emphasis on the quality of his work and his patients’ overall satisfaction. He makes himself readily available to discuss every aspect of your treatment, from start to finish. He believes good communication is fundamental and (as he puts it) the most informed patients make the happiest patients!

Bio for James McClary, Jr.

Dr. James McClary, Jr. is a local native to Summerville. He moved here in 1973 after his dad retired from the Army. He graduated from Summerville High School and went on to graduate from Presbyterian College with a Bachelor Degree in Biology. He attended the Medical University of South Carolina for his dental studies. After graduating in 1999, he joined his father, Dr. James McClary, Sr., a true cornerstone in our community. That union became McClary Family Dental.

Dr. McClary, Jr. and his charming wife, Lynn, have three beautiful children, Holland, Kendall and Olivia. They are both very active within their church, St. Paul’s Episcopal, and enjoy quality family-focused activities. When Dr. McClary, Jr. is not out sailing, swimming, or playing at the beach with his family, he can be found out on the golf course (usually with Dr. Myers ) or learning a new song on his guitar.

Dr. McClary, Jr. is a warm, caring dentist. He is proficient, professional and widely experienced in all aspects of dentistry. He has the ease and comfortable chair-side manner that keeps even the youngest of patients laughing in the chair. Being able to reach him in an unforeseen time of need is very important to him, that’s why he gives every patient his home phone number. Our patients say it is so nice to pass him at the grocery store, in church, or at a favorite restaurant and stop and have a chat.

Bio for Dr. McClary Sr.

Growing up in neighboring Columbia, Dr. James (Jim) McClary, Sr. is the quintessential pioneer of Pineland Family Dental. Graduating for USC in 1967, he proceeded on to attend MUSC for his dental studies and graduated from there in 1971. At this time in his life and career, he made the decision to join the armed forces. He proudly served in the Army Dental Corp during the Vietnam War.

Leaving the military life behind, he and his charming wife, Susan, moved back to Summerville in 1973 where he opened his first solo practice, a practice that would later become Pineland Family Dental.

Jim and Susan have two children Carolyn and James Jr. Carolyn and her husband life in Georgia and James Jr. is right here practicing dentistry side-by-side with his dad. Dr. McClary, Sr. is also the proud grandparent of six beautiful grandchildren.

When Dr. McClary, Sr. is not in the office, you can find him with a hammer-in-hand somewhere (literally). He spends his leisure time helping build homes for the Habitat for Humanity, volunteering at the Palmetto House and continues to be an active member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where he has been attending church for over 25 years.

Dr. McClary, Sr.'s hobbies include wood-working and wood-carving. In addtion to displaying his intricate bird sculptures in our office, don't be surprised to see them showcased from time to time in local galleries. He also enjoys golfing, snow skiing and sailing on the open seas. Many of our patients schedule additional "social time" at their dental visits just to sit and listen to the details of his most recent trip somewhere.

Dr. McClary, Sr. is a member of the MUSC and the USC Alumni Associations. He continues his support in the dental community with his membership with the Coastal Dental Society, American Dental Association and the South Carolina Dental Association.

Many of our patients are grown with children and grandchildren of their own, but their trust and confidence in Pineland Family Dental continues to grow more with each generation. It truly is a family tradition in our office and it all began with Dr. McClary, Sr., who will always have our thanks and gratitute.
